Jill and Rodney moved house at the end of November 2013. There is some work to be done including a new studio for Jill. They are still in Bath but have a new telephone number 01225 834296 and a new email: jill.bennett444@btinternet.com

Jill's illustrations for Roald Dahl's British publications of "Fantastic Mr Fox" recently graced the pages of Sotheby's London Catalogue alongside the illustratrations of E H Shepard for The Wind in the Willows. Jill was delighted as the Shepard illustrations of Mr Toad, Badger and Ratty have been amongst her all-time favourites. Some of Jill's original illustrations, including "Danny The Champion of the World" were recently snapped up by both a museum and collector.

The website www.childrensbookillustration.com have made some limited edition prints of selected illustrations. (see above..the BFG and I dont know how long I sat there...from Danny The Champion of the Word) just 2 several available to purchase, view the website by clicking here

Looking Back at Jill's Retrospective Exhibition in 2007

Mrs Gosoftly Presents:

The Storytelling Art of Jill Bennett in both 3 Dimensional Illustration and Book Illustration

Stories have always been at the centre of Jill Bennett’s life, either drawing, painting, or making them up. As a child she wanted to be a children’s book illustrator and worked as one for many years. Among the authors she has illustrated are Charles Dickens, Roald Dahl, Dorothy Edwards, Dick King-Smith and Helen Cresswell.

Jill’s other passion is the theatre. She studied theatre design at Wimbledon School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art. Her doll making combines both storytelling and drama, to create a world in miniature. A life, in fact, of make believe!

Jill's Exhibition "Mrs Gosoftly Presents" was held at Somerset Rural Life Museum, Glastonbury in June/July 2007 and included some special walk around exhibition tours by Jill herself

Jill also offered special sessions for school groups and visitors during her exhibition. Jill would like to express her thanks to the all the staff at Somerset Rural Life Museum, who were such a help in setting up the event.

Jill's Dolls

Jill decided to stop taking orders for new dolls in 2012 she knew that her eyes could no longer withstand the prolonged strain of fine detail reqired by the miniature scale. Her remaining 12th scale and large scale feature dolls will continue to be available from this website.

Jill's daughter Kate Pinsent has expanded her own range of 12th scale dolls as Jill pours herself into to book illustration.

An early cover illustration by Jill for Puffin Books
Jill's daughter Kate Pinsent continues to make miniature dolls in 1/12th and 1/24th scale. It becomes quite extrodinary to imagine (see size coparison above, Jill's 1/12th scale at the top and Kate's 1/24th below) that Kate is able to replicate the same posable body, so admired in her Mothers dolls at this much smaller scale.

Kate has also added 1/48th scale to her rapidly expanding range of miniature dolls.
