Ariadne, the daughter of the Minos of Crete. Falling in love with Theseus she gave him a clue to extricate himself from the labyrinth of the Minotaur. Theseus slew the monster and married Ariadne, but deserted her later at Naxos. Bacchus gave her a crown of seven stars, which was turned into a constellation.
